Dr Nicola Bishop joined 性吧电台 as Academic Enhancement Lead in 2024. Prior to this, she held roles as Director of Strategic Curriculum Enhancement and Education Innovation for the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at Loughborough University and Senior Lecturer/Education Lead for the Department of English at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Nicola’s scholarly research career began in the Humanities where her PhD looked at the representations of class and gender in Victorian fiction. Her later research develops this interest by exploring wider popular culture, from the 19^th century to the present day, focusing particularly on the lower middle class and concepts of the ‘middlebrow’.

Since 2017, Nicola has been involved in educational leadership, researching, engaging in pilot projects and supporting colleagues on the development of innovative practices and the improvement of key metrics in the Higher Education landscape.

Research Interests/Expertise

Nicola’s published research to date has been interdisciplinary in approach, examining class, gender, and national identity across literature and popular media from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. She is particularly interested in the lower middle classes in Britain and their representation in popular and middlebrow literature, sitcoms, and film.

As an educational leader, Nicola is also involved in enhancing academic practice, researching areas related to inclusive curricula, academic coaching, supporting continuation and career-readiness.
